Great instruction for kids!

My son has been attending the kids Kung Fu classes for around 6 months and absolutely loves them. He really has become a calmer more confident kid both at home and at school. Within the first month Kung Fu became his favorite activity, and so far has shown no signs of that changing. Instead of me encouraging him to practice, he comes to me insisting that I watch what he learned in his last class. We could not be more pleased.

Whether you want to do Tai Chi (or Chi Gong) for health and strengthening, to quiet your body and mind, to age gracefully, to build a community, to practice self defense, there are opportunities for all of these at the Tai Chi Center. Wes Adams follows a lineage of experts in these art forms. You can trust his training and his expertise. I am an Advanced Practice Nurse, have benefited from his instruction personally, and would refer my clients to him as well. Jeanette Spence, APRN

Something for Everyone

There are many reasons to learn Tai Chi. In my 20s I wanted to learn the martial aspect of the art, especially since self defense was one of my main concerns, but I could not locate a school or teacher in my area. In my 30s and 40s my focus was on staying physically fit, but the few classes offered near me met only once or twice a week and did not fit my schedule. In my 50s, which is the age I actually started studying Tai Chi for its many health benefits, I FINALLY found the perfect place to learn this wonderful art – Columbia Tai Chi Center.

I only wish that there had been a school like this back when I first started looking for a place to study, because even though my focus has changed over the years, the art of Tai Chi would not only have met them all, but classes at Columbia Tai Chi Center have EXCEEDED all of my expectations! I LOVE the curriculum offered here! Columbia Tai Chi Center is a traditional school that teaches the COMPLETE art. It teaches the Fundamentals, Tai Chi Forms, Push Hands, Marital Applications, Weapons, and various forms of Meditation and Qigong exercises. Classes are scheduled six days a week at times that should fit even the busiest schedules. The instruction is kind and thoughtful and it all takes place in a friendly atmosphere.

This is one of the few types of training where age, or how physically fit or healthy you may be is NOT a predictor of how well you will do. How you progress in this wonderful art is actually up to YOU. I have multiple medical issues that involve my back, hip and knee, all of which can be painful; and metabolic issues that affect my nutrition and energy. In fact, at one point in my life, I was given six months to live due to a sever e form of anemia (called Aplastic Anemia). And though I survived over the years due to chemotherapy and other supportive measures, it wasn’t until I started practicing the Tai Chi and Qigong that I learned at Columbia Tai Chi Center that nearly all of my blood counts normalized and every major symptom abated.

Everyone in the Columbia Metropolitan and surrounding areas interested in improving their life should try a FREE class at Columbia Tai Chi Center. Do it! It can CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I am living proof.

Just what I was looking for

I needed a school, not just a once-a-week club where we waved our arms around. The teacher has been doing Tai Chi for over 16 years, and he takes the time to explain what we're doing or why. Sometimes I work up a sweat, sometimes I get sore, so I know I'm doing something beneficial; which is why I'm there.

Great People

My doctor was shocked. Cholesterol was way down, blood pressure was great and my overall demeanor was good. All of these were big changes since the last time I saw him. I credit my two years at the Columbia Tai Chi Center.

In addition concrete medical evidence, I notice other changes every day. I feel as if I move better. Leg strength is definitely up. I can take the stresses at work much more easily. Once again – tai chi.

The skills and techniques are great, but I think that the people really make the place. Sifu Adams has a great teaching personality and an obvious passion for the art. That passion manifests itself in a patient, methodical, calm and often humorous teaching style that makes everyone comfortable, regardless of ability level. The assistant instructors are great, too. Sifu’s style is reflected in them. Finally, the students are great. I have never been around such an eclectic, fun and welcoming group of people.

Come on in a take the free class. As cheesy as it sounds – you’ll be glad you did.

Top quality material and Sifu

Having practiced Tai Chi with Sifu for 18 months or so, I continue to be amazed at the depths one is challenged to take their practice to. From walking the form, stance training and chi gong my legs have never been stronger. All that said this is just the beginning. The curriculum has been well thought out and delivered and is approachable for people from all levels of fitness. Give it a try. You'll be happier and healthier for it.

A fantastic traditional school

I had never taken martial arts before starting here, but I have been a student for about a year and a half and love it! I signed up because I needed something to relieve my stress, and in turn have significantly reduced my stress levels and learned a lot about the art itself. Sifu Adams makes sure that he presents as well-rounded of a tai chi curriculum as possible, and his love for the art shows. I enjoy learning aspects of the art that are for health, but also about weapons and martial applications that are a part of the whole spectrum.

If you're committed to changing your life into a positive, healthy, more balanced one then I strongly recommend studying at the Columbia Tai Chi Center.

-

Since joining the school three years ago, I've felt a change in my attitude overall that has allowed me to deal with stress a lot better. I also feel that I'm becoming more balanced physically. I was always a strong individual (former college athlete) but not very flexible. The tai chi has helped to open my body up but also improve my strength and balance. Most importantly, I've felt a change in my eating habits (I want more healthy foods), I rarely get sick (and if I do, I get over it quickly) and I feel really good about myself!

-

All of this is thanks to the instructor and senior students at the school. Sifu Wes Adams is very knowledgeable about the art and has worked hard to make a positive, welcoming environment for his students to learn. The other senior instructors and students are also very kind, friendly and patient.

-

Finally, I love that we're learning the full art and not just bits and pieces: posture, form, qigong, meditation, push hands, weapons and martial applications are all available for the motivated student. So if you're interested in learning the full extent of a beautiful art and also getting more healthy physically and mentally while you do it, then Columbia Tai Chi Center is the place for you!
